New funding for SafeSeas anounced

SafeSeas has received new funding from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) of the United Kingdom. The ESRC is the premier grant making authority of the UK in the field of social sciences. As was announced in a press declarration, SafeSeas will receive funding from the ESRC Partnership for Conflict, Crime and Security Research (PaCCS). The funding is for the new SafeSeas project titled “Transnational organised crime at sea: New evidence for better responses” (TOCAS). The project is led by SafeSeas Director Tim Edmunds, who is Professor at the University of Bristol with Professor Christian Bueger from the University of Copenhagen acting as the co-investigator.

Safeseas at Fishcrime

Fishcrime is an international forum to address fishery crimes by exhcaning information and working towards better coordination. The 4th FishCrime Symposium takes place in Copenhagen from the 15th to 17th of September. Prof Tim Edmunds and Prof Christian Bueger from the SafesSeas network will attend the event.

Oceans Beyond Piracy State of Maritime Piracy 2017 Report Launch

SafeSeas researcher Dr Rupert Alcock attended this OBP report launch event at the Riverside Park Plaza, London, 23 May 2018. The annual report assesses the economic and human costs of maritime piracy in four regions: East Africa, West Africa, Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean. As testament to the ever growing global interest in piracy and wider maritime security challenges, the event attracted more attendees than all prior launches of its kind to date.
