During its field visit to the Seychelles in July, the core team of SAFESEAS met with the core maritime security agencies of the country. The objective was to gain first-hand experience of how Seychelles manages its maritime security sector, what challenges exist in the coordination as well as the implementation of the countries ambitious plans and what lessons from the substantive capacity building efforts in the country can be drawn. The project team met with the leadership of the Seychelles Coast Guard in the facility opened in 2011, visited the REFLECS3 building which also houses the Regional Maritime Operational Coordination Centre and the Seychelles National Maritime Information Sharing Center. Also, meetings with the Seychelles Fishing Authority and the Seychelles Marine Spatial Planning Office were held.

The consultations will inform both the ongoing mapping of the Seychelles maritime security sector, a range of shorter lessons learned summaries, as well as the outline of the best practice tool kit for maritime security capacity building.
